We just got back from spending the last three days at Piper Island Cabin for a quick and easy hunting trip. We didn't get a deer, didn't even see one at all!, but we had a fun time. It was cold so we stayed toasty warm inside with a hot fire going in the stove, and froze while we were out on the boat. The whole trip started out as an adventure with being pulled over by a city cop for speeding (we got a friendly warning - we had forgotten something at home and were in a rush to go get it and get back on the road and the officer understood as he commented that he had been there himself!) The next part of the adventure was when we discovered that we had left the air mattresses at home which meant sleeping on a plywood bed. OUCH!!!! And it ended with us having to hail another boat to help us get out to our boat which was tied to the mooring buoy. We normally use our little raft to go back and forth but the wind unexpectedly ( and contrary to the forecast) got too strong (gusts to 30mph) and Troy would have been blown out to sea if he had attempted it! So we came home with sore hip bones, cold feet and no deer, but we had a fun family time away from the phone and other distractions. The kids learned to play Uno and Skip-bo and have one more memory to add to their memory chips.

yeah, maybe in a few more years!!!

the kids were needing to use the outhouse so since it was dark, we told them to go together and use their flashlights. This would normally be fine with them, but this time, despite their numbers and their fancy new wind-up flashlights, they wouldn't go and said they would just "hold it." I then realized they were still in bear watch mode, so I casually mentioned that the bears were hibernating so they wouldn't see any. That was all it took. Well, that and me shining Thor, our 10,000,000 candle power spotlight (translation- super duper bright light) out the window to light up the night for them! After that we brought the honey-bucket in so we could just go in the warmth and safety of the cabin.
