Piper Island Cabin

We just can't stop! We just got back from another weekend camping at a remote cabin. This time we went North to Fish Bay where the Piper Island cabin is. It is a 50 minute boat ride from Sitka so we were completely out of touch from anyone but boats in the immediate area. The cabin is a cute little A-frame set in a peaceful cove with a nice gravel beach right out front. We went with another family so we were tightly squeezed into the tiny space, but we had a lot of fun. We had fair weather most of the time, but we did get rain Sunday from mid-afternoon until after we went to bed. With a nice hot fire sizzling outside in the fire ring and a warm fire going in the indoor oil stove and rain gear on we were able to stay warm and dry. And I have decided that if I don't stop camping, I will not fit my clothes by the end of summer - I think it is a rule that you have to take all the yummy, fattening food with you, like s'mores, chips, oreos, hotdogs, licorice.......
on the way out......
the tiny cabin inside.....
megan claimed the tiny bunk/shelf under the counter to sleep on...
every cabin has a swing!.....
finding crabs and sea life.....
ruby tuesday is hoping a stick will be thrown......
the kids enjoying the beach........
nelly enjoys the view.....

we had a humpback whale swim by and feed about 50 feet off the beach
right in front of the cabin. I didn't dig my camera out on time
so all I got was this whimpy little shot as it left, but it gives you
an idea of how close it was. It was coming out of the water
with it's mouth wide open and making a big splash...........
using the raft to go get the boat at the mooring bouy......
we went fishing while we were there and caught a 47# halibut......
..... a spiny rock fish........
....and a yellow eye rock fish....
packing the boat up to leave. you would be amazed at how
much stuff you can put in a boat without sinking it!......
ahhhhhhh! a shower never felt so good! as soon as I walked into
the house, I went straight to the shower and soaked for a long time!!
We have no more cabins reserved for the summer, but that doesn't mean we won't go camping again! There are so many beaches to just pitch a tent on, so we might try that next on a sunny weekend. Assuming we have any more sunny weekends!!
