There is a place in Sitka called Fortress of the Bear. It is a sanctuary that was made for two orphaned brown bear cubs from Angoon, Alaska. I am not sure how old they are but we figure they are about three years old. There is a platform that you go up on and it overlooks the bear area. The cubs came over to the platform as soon as we got there and checked us out. There was a lot of sniffing going on as they tried to figure out who we were. They looked like a cuddly teddy bear, but then in a second would give a look that made you wither. And made you very thankful that you were above them on a platform that they could not get to! Anyway, if you ever make it to Sitka, it is a stop that you must make! And as a little bonus, right next to the bear area is a petting farm with pigs, goats, bunnies, chickens, and a mini pony.
Here are some pictures that we took.
