Thimbleberry and Heart Lakes

Today after church we decided to hit the trail and get some excercise and fresh air as well as enjoy some fun. So we drove to the Thimbleberry Lake trail head and headed up. It is only .3 miles to the lake, which makes it very accessible for ice skaters. As you can see, it is a popular place. We didn't stay at Thimbleberry long and instead continued on another mile up the trail to Heart Lake. We knew it would not be as crowded since it is almost a mile and a half from the road, plus we had just gotten started so we weren't ready to stop and play yet. When we got to Heart Lake, we saw that we were right and that there were only a few people there (hockey players) Can you believe the beauty? To have access to God's masterpeice like this is a real blessing and enjoyment.
Here we are at the beginning of the hike at Thimbleberry lake. The people on the ice are others that were already here.....
Then off we continued to Heart Lake.
What used to be a ravine that you had to go around now has a nice
and handy bridge across it!!.......

Here we are at Heart Lake. When we arrived there were about 7 young men out playing a remote game of hockey. Troy and Andrew watched wistfully! I told Troy that it is probably a good thing we are not in Kodiak since I would not have been in agreement with him playing this year after breaking his leg playing last year. So being here has prevented a potential and probable problem!! I understand the whole getting back on the horse concept, but this is not an issue of him being afraid to get back on - it is more of me not wanting to have him recovering on the couch for another 8 weeks!! If you have been there, then you know what I am talking about. If you have not had the life altering experience of having your husband convalescing
with a broken leg for a VERY long time, then you might not understand.
But trust me, you would if you knew!!!!!!

The kids thought these stumps were put here just for them. They made
the perfect spot to take a picture....
This trail used to be a bushwhacking trail that followed the power lines. But then the Sitka Trail Works crew came in and made it very accessable and easy. It is nice, but we also liked the rugged trail so either way would have been fine. It does make travel faster though!!.....
