Winter Ice

Sitka does not have an ice rink like most Alaska towns do so we have to wait until the ice on Swan Lake gets thick enough. As soon as it does, it is a very popular place in town. The kids were so excited when they saw everyone out there and there was no way we were going to get away with not taking them. So out they went last night where they skated by moonlight and then again today. We only have one pair of skates for them so they had to take turns using them. But while one was skating, the other two were having just as much fun sliding. It is a Courier and Ives type setting so it is a lot of fun and an okay substitute for an ice rink.
You can see below that it is a popular spot.......

Andrew has been missing his hockey very much so he was having a ball hitting
the puck around. He can hardly wait to be back on a team again!

This show how big the lake is. The whole area is thick enough
so there is plenty of room to skate....
I like this picture because you can alomost see
the "Swiss Alps" in the background......
On our way home Nelly and I stopped to take
some pictures of a frozen pond.....
I love the way these ice chunks have stacked up.....
A frozen boat harbor.......
Meg......
