Search and Rescue

Today, despite the wet Sitka weather, the SAR team went out and did Orientation training with our compasses. We were given some headings and were then told to "Go" until we had them all. It was a lot of fun, and a good refresher on a skill that is easily forgotten when it isn't used very much. With GPS's now, it is easy to forget to keep up on the compass. But what happens when your GPS dies? Then what do you do?? I am going to try to practice every time we go out.

here I am with my team, finding our next heading......

here is Fathom- he completely enjoyed the day out running and playing. But he kept trying to run up ahead and find the team that was ahead of us. I had to keep calling him back, which he was not happy about!!......

here are a few teams (myself included, but you can't see me very well);
we are working on our next heading, which was written on the orange flagging.....

Usually we take the kids along on these easy training days, but since the USA vs. Canada hockey game was on, Troy stayed home with them. Too bad USA lost!!
